Speaker: Jen Magnus

The IAWP will be hosting Jen Magnus, who will be speaking on Trauma-Informed Interviewing. Trauma-Informed interviewing is a science-based methodology used to educate professionals on the importance of empathic listening and recognizing brain-based cues when interviewing individuals who have experienced trauma.  Trauma-Informed training educates how the brain and body respond to trauma and provides effective interviewing methods for the investigator to ensure victims and witnesses uncover the most accurate details of their experience. Trauma-Informed interviewing is not only for victims and witnesses; it can be effectively used on an accused as well.

Participants will be educated on the definition of trauma; the brain and how the brain responds to trauma; memory encoding and recall; and how to interview traumatized individuals (victim, witness, and accused) through the formulation of trauma-informed questions.
